Hotel Kansas City/Kansas City Club Signature Tile Installation

Commissioned by NineDot Arts to honor the history of the building and region, this wall composition of 43 slip-cast porcelain tiles commemorates the founders of the influential 1920’s Kansas City Club.

Porcelain, glaze. Slip-cast tiles with slip trailed names. C6 oxidation fired. Each tile 5.5” x 11.5” x 1.25.” Wall installation 90” x 48”

Hotel Kansas City: Client

The Signature Tiles are installed at the Hotel Kansas City. Recently remodeled, this historic building in Kansas City, MO was recently recognized in Travel & Leisure’s 2021 “Best New Hotels in the World.” It originally housed the 1920’s Kansas City Club, a social organization that helped shape the economic and social landscape of the region.

Signature Tiles: Pre-installation detail

The porcelain tiles were first slip-cast, and then each of the KC Club founder’s names were fused to the surface of a tile with glaze. Names were slip-trailed by hand to evoke the feeling of a signature, but emerge from the tile in low relief.
